rottweiler smallSkills for the Reactive Dog Presentation

Living with a reactive dog can be difficult.  In this presentation Jane will explain how to help your dog learn to turn away from triggers such as other dogs, bikes, cars, etc.  Having a dog that lunges and barks and completely "tunes out" the human end of the leash can be embarrassing, frustrating, and sometimes scary.  Over the years, Jane has noticed that more often than not, it is how the leash is handled that triggers the dog into the unfavourable reaction. During the slide show presentation, you will learn how to connect with your dog.  Learn leash skills that will communicate with rather than control your dog.

This presentation is for the human end of the leash only, but do bring your dog's leash...you will be learning the mechanics of leash skills on each other rather than learning on your dog.

Tuesday, August 16, 2016 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Training Grounds

CA$35.00

Dog Park PicDog Speak Presentation

Jane Neve of Canine Conduct Training Solutions is presenting "What is My Dog Saying - at the Dog Park & On the Trails?"  This 2 hours presentation teaches participants how to recognize appropriate dog play; to assist pet owners in the community to better understand how dogs communicate;  how to tell good play from risky interactions.   Space is limited.  This presentation is for the human end of the leash only, no dogs please.

Attendance to this Presentation is a prerequisite for membership to the Black Creek Dog Park.  This ensures all Park users are educated in Park etiquette and safety and all dogs coming to the Park are current in their immunization and parasite control schedule. Dog Park drop-in is a suggested donation of $5 each to a maximum of $20/month. Park hours are Dawn to Dusk.

Next Presentations are Tuesday, April 19, 2016 and again on May 31, 2016.  From 7pm to 9pm with tour of the Dog Park to follow.

dog on phoneNew!  Phone Consultations:

Not to be confused with the follow-up phone calls which are included in your consultation and/or class fees.  You hear me say it all the time:  "call me with questions!".

Phone Consultations are for those moments when you are not sure how to go forward with training your dog....those things like house training, new dog introductions, mild fear issues, barking, door manners when visitors arrive, mild separation anxiety, digging, mouthing, Dog Park behaviour questions, etc, etc.  Sometimes I will ask for a short video or I may suggest that the issue is not mild or simple and consulting over the phone may not be ethical and/or safe. Phone consultations are for those that say "my dog is just great except when (fill in blank).  If the blank is chasing cars or aggressively lunging at others or destructive when left alone, then a phone consult is not in your best interest - you need in-person consultations.

Phone Consultations are an affordable option!
Only $20 per each 30 minutes.
If we decide that in-person consultations are in the best interest of you and your dog, the phone consultation fee is credited to your in-person consultation fees....making the call become no-charge.

Click HERE to sign up for your Phone Consultation then call Jane at 250-898-3173 to set up a time.

Agility for Fun

Absolute teamwork between handler and dog. This is a great opportunity to introduce your dog to agility or show your experienced dog a different venue.

Agility courses run for 6 weeks ($75) and classes are held outdoors subject to the weather.  Drop in is available on most weeks ($15 ea), call or email to reserve a spot.  Signing up for a session guarantees you a spot.

Classes offered mainly at the beginners level and we cater mostly to dogs that need help with their focus and obedience skills.  We get you and your dog ready to move on to more advanced training with recommended trainers in the area by teaching you the “how’s and why’s” of training.  Classes are taught at your dog's comfort level and are kept fun and motivational. Private lessons are also available.

For some, the majority of your class time may be spent on "ground work" and limited time on the equipment.  If you are interested in connecting with your dog through teamwork, then this is the class for you.

Dog Park Pic

A dog park is a wonderful place for social dogs to meet and play.  But, it can be a very scary place if dogs that do not know how to play appropriately are permitted into the Park for a "free for all".  We would like to avoid this scary scenario by providing a safe park for social dogs only.  Dogs in need of socialization can join in a class that teaches just that; your goal will be to pass the assessment and join in the fun at the Park!

The goal of the Black Creek Dog Park
is to provide a safe and fun place for people and their social dogs to come together.  It is a place where puppies can learn.  Even Yellow Ribbon dogs have a safe section in which to work on much needed skills.

It is a "Members Only" Park.
Members are educated and caring and responsible.  They maintain the integrity of the Park.  They are respectful of each other, they know that standing around is not ideal, phones stay in the pocket (except for taking those awesome pictures), and incessant barking is not fun for anyone. Because dogs wearing shock/choke/prong/spray collars are not permitted, each owner must have a basic understanding of training using force-free and humane methods.  (follow any links on this website for more training information).

The Park is located on private property;
this means that each person that uses the Park must have attended at least one Dog Speak at the Dog Park presentation and/or a Well Mannered Dog class session.  When accepted, a waiver is signed at time of payment.

aerial2013dogpark

The first step for Membership
is to enroll in a Dog Speak Presentation.  And/Or enroll in a Well Mannered Dog Class session and/or enrol in a Bits & Pats lesson. Information can be found by following the links on this page. A waiver must be signed prior to entry regardless of acceptance.  If your dog has stayed here as a doggy houseguest, I'll let you know how s/he did in the Park.

NEEDED:  Would love a few loads of clean fill!!  Volunteers are always welcome to help "train" those blackberries!  Work parties happen most weekends, so just drop by.

The first testimonial from the first "life time Member":

"Rosie and I had the best time! I didn’t get a lot of work done, but we sure had fun. Rosie and I were both completely covered in mud - a sure sign that we enjoyed ourselves. I tried to toss branches on the brush piles, but Rosie kept retrieving them for me! It was so wonderful to see her off-leash, with no restrictions, and without me having to continually scan the horizon. At one point she was so filled with joy that she went on a nut run - she hasn’t done that since she was a pup! Thank you!!!!"

Monday mornings at 10am ~ Reliable Recalls ~come out to teach your dog to come when called with other dogs and people (and sometimes rabbits, deer and horses too). $35 for the 1 hour lesson.

Tuesday mornings at 10am ~ Loose Leash Manners ~ come out and practice polite walking with a loose leash. One of the goals is polite meeting & greeting of other dogs and people. $35 for the 1 hour lesson.

Thursday mornings at 10am ~ Canine Good Neighbour Class ~ come out and continue your goal of sharing your life with a Canine Good Neighbour. If you are interested in having a well-mannered dog, and/or participating in any St. John's Ambulance Canine Therapy Program, and/or would like your dog to have the CKC CGN Certification, then this is the class for you!

There are 12 "tests" in the Canine Good Neighbour program. Each week, how to successfully pass each one of the tests will be taught.  You and your dog can join at any time.
For More Information: CKC Website
Please be aware: this course is to prepare you and your dog for testing.  The actual test must be administered by a CKC member of which Jane is not...because Jane has not owned a "pure-bred" dog in years :))  but instead is owned by 4 rescue mutts - one of which is certified.
All dogs - regardless of breed(s) - are invited to class. Jane has extensive knowledge and experience with many breeds.
To avoid disappointment - Preregistration advised as only 6 dogs are permitted through the gate. $35 for the 1 hour lesson.

As with all classes, dogs must me current in their vaccine schedule and free of parasites.  Play Day dogs must be wearing flat collars only - no harnesses or martingales and it goes without saying (but will say it anyway) absolutely NO prongs/choke/chain/spray/e-collars permitted.
